Design Team brainstorming session

• i feel like purdue hackers is currently doing a disservice to the design team. there are 5 of you, but i feel like it's hard to stay fully engaged because there isn't much to do

• right now, your job is to make posters for workshops. in this meeting, i want to brainstorm other ways the design team can contribute in big ways, and hear from you what you want to be working on.

• how do you feel about the design team? how do you feel about your role in purdue hackers? what do you want to do in purdue hackers in ideal world?

    • i thought we'd be doing more design work for the website, like UI/UX. brainstorming with people working on the website, making mockups and potential designs

  • evan

    • my contributions over the last year have been making posters for events, which happen somewhat infrequently

    • previously i thought about the design team's role could include figma models helping engineering team with the website, creating assets for the website

    • last semester, i did a lot of hammerwars stuff. before that i did a couple posters. this semester there haven't been a lot of posters

    • during hammerwars, i made a picture for a tshirt. it was a cartoony purdue p. so i was thinking of things like that. like sticker designs

    • i just joined last semester so i didn't have much to do. i helped out with the first workshop, but there hasn't been anything for me to do, so i was ust kind of idle

    • i don't really have a preference re what i want to do. even if something is outside the realm of design i'm happy to do it! i just wanna be assigned stuff

    • "what did you expect to do when you joined the design team?" posters, stickers, tshirts/merch

• ideas for things design team can do

  • make a bunch of sticker designs. whenever someone feels inspired, make a sticker design. then we print 100 of them, and they become collectible items

    • sean: making a poster is also doing messaging, but making a cool sticker design is just making a sticker design—aka it's easier to make a great sticker design because you can just make something cool and not also have it communicate info for marketing

  • hammerwars branding/merch/etc

  • cool shirt designs, give them out during events

  • doing more work on the website

  • merch shop. tote bags, pins, shirts, water bottles, custom keycap
